About Us

Movementu Solushon Isla (MSi) is a green movement in Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles, led by it its charismatic leader Edgar (Gachi) Leito. The movement has a watchdog function.

MSi was formed as a foundation in 2008 by Edgar Leito and Andrés Casimiri. Edgar was head of the environmental department and Fire Chief of Shell in Curaçao, later PDVSA. He made his name as whistleblower when he started to report gross negligence towards the environment. He is an active member in the Chamber of Commerce. Casimiri was an international entrepreneur who directed multinational electronic assembly plants and distribution companies worldwide. He is a Vincentian, aLaity Minister and Rotarian

In the 2009 Manifesto of MSi they express their reasons why they felt the need to close the refinery. Both are retired. Both regularly write articles in newspapers, on facebook and personal websites addressing Curaçao’s poor government performance. They keep expressing their visions for the future of Curaçao without a refinery. Together they host the daily radio talk show, Lanta Ariba/Sta Op (Wake Up), on Radio Krioyo.

Both firmly believe that the people in Curaçao have suffered from the harsh combination of a stagnant economy after Shell closed, PDVSA’s poor management and lack of upgrading the refinery, a government that has not uphold environmental laws and a rapidly growing population that keeps producing unemployment. They believe that Curaçao needs quick and major sustainable economic reform in order to create a more equitable, stable society.

The foundation created a separate independent association and made its presence as political party known on November 11, 2009 when other political parties refused to put the refinery on their political calendar. Edgar Leito heads this party and is president of the association. The party has its own website: http://www.movementusolushonisla.com. They participated in the January 22nd 2010 election, but were not able to get a seat in Parliament. While the main two political forces of Curaçao are at odds with each other on how to become an autonomous country, MSi firmly believes that the economy should be addressed on a parallel track on the road to becoming an autonomous nation. An autonomous country without a sound and sustainable economic plan will fail and therefore needs to be addressed quickly and implemented immediately.

MSi, and its founders, will continue to promote their vision of Unity, Hope and Prosperity for the Curaçao People, a new day and new way towards a new autonomous Curaçao.
